Interventional Pain Management Procedures

Pain is the body’s way of letting you know that something is wrong. Studies indicate that acute pain, left untreated, can lead to chronic pain, which disables more people than cancer or heart disease. Chronic pain persists for months or years and affects your physical and emotional well-being. It may result from an injury or infection or be psychogenic, meaning it is unrelated to injury. Our pain management physicians are dedicated to providing safe, high-quality cost-effective interventional pain medicine techniques. Let us treat your chronic pain; we will give you control and the ability to regain the life you want.

Pain Management Procedures at Arkansas Surgical Hospital

Foraminal Epidural Injections

Foraminal Epidural Injections: Injections are commonly given to patients with leg and/or back pain to relieve such pain and improve mobility without surgery. Steroid injections can buy time to allow healing to occur and/or as an attempt to avoid surgery after other conservative (non-surgical) treatment approaches have failed.

Facet Injection

Facet Injection: A minimally invasive procedure that can temporarily relieve neck or back pain caused by inflamed facet joints. The procedure can be used as a diagnostic test to see if the pain is actually coming from your facet joints. It can also be used as a treatment to relieve inflammation and pain caused by various spine conditions.

Lumbar Epidural Steroid Injection (LESI)

Lumbar Epidural Steroid Injection (LESI): A common treatment option for many forms of low back pain and leg pain. They have been used for low-back problems since 1952 and are still an integral part of the non-surgical management of sciatica and low-back pain. The goal of the injection is pain relief; at times the injection alone is sufficient to provide relief, but commonly the injection is used in combination with a comprehensive rehabilitation program to provide additional benefit.

Radiofrequency Rhizotomy

Radiofrequency Rhizotomy: A therapeutic procedure designed to decrease and/or eliminate pain symptoms arising from degenerative facet joints within the spine. The procedure involves destroying the nerves that innervate the facet joints with highly localized heat generated with radiofrequency. By destroying these nerves, the communication link that signals pain from the spine to the brain can be broken.
