Introducing the ROSA®️ Knee System from Zimmer Biomet

“Technology can never fully replace the decades of experience possessed by a skilled surgeon, but it can help with technique in certain circumstances,” said orthopedic surgeon Dr. Scott Bowen, Chairman of the Board of Arkansas Surgical Hospital.  “For the surgeons, medical staff and, most importantly, patients, the ROSA Knee assistant has the potential to offer a number of key benefits.”

What is ROSA?

The ROSA®️ Knee System is designed to aid surgeons as they perform total knee replacement surgery.  ROSA, which stands for Robotic Surgical Assistant, helps your surgeon tailor the placement of your knee implant.  This technology gives your surgeon the ability to customize your knee replacement procedure.

How Does ROSA Help?

ROSA’s features include the ability to analyze and track a patient’s specific anatomy.  It functions as a surgical instrument that provides your surgeon with precision and flexibility during your knee replacement procedure.

A knee replacement with ROSA is very similar to a standard knee replacement surgery.  ROSA simply serves as an assistant to your surgeon’s expertise, delivering details about your unique anatomy.  The data provided by ROSA is designed to aid your surgeon in decision-making for the best outcome possible.

Before Your Surgery

Using X-AtlasTM technology, ROSA Knee can create a 3D model of your knee from X-rays taken before your procedure.  This allows your surgeon to plan and customize many details of your specific operation.  Using the 3D model, your surgeon can perform a “virtual knee replacement” to help predict the balance and placement of your knee implant.

During Your Surgery

ROSA Knee functions as a surgical assistant to give your surgeon tools and specific data to perform your knee replacement with accuracy and efficiency.

Real-time data provided by ROSA’s optical trackers can alert your surgeon to tiny movements your leg may make during your procedure.  ROSA then adjusts to account for this movement, enabling your surgeon to place your new knee implant with accuracy.  ROSA also provides data throughout your surgery about your bone and soft tissue anatomy to assist with the positioning of your implant.
